1. Work across party lines.
Politicians should set the people above partisan politics to accomplish the most possible for our community and State.
2. Protect Family Incomes.
Instead of just swapping one tax for another, actually reduce taxes. Insist on capping the State budget. If families have to live within their means so should government.
3. Use the 1-2-3 Property Tax as a Starting Point and work at lowering.
It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to cap our property tax. We should allow Hoosiers to the chance to vote on making it permanent. We should simultaneously look for ways to lower our property tax for business and possibly eliminate it entirely for homeowners.
4. Work with Local Governments to Improve Elkhart County.
Our local officials need a State Representative who works as a partner and not a guardian. Together we can improve our roads, build Ivy Tech and promote economic development. By changing legislation we can keep County income tax locally and not send it down State. (The State is slow to return it and only returns money of people who file tax returns, thus we don’t get back our own money).
5. Work Hand in Hand with Educators.
Improve how schools are graded by the State to more accurately reflect strengths and weaknesses verses lumping all student results together. Also eliminate ‘prevailing wage’ for new school construction making building projects more affordable and lowering our taxes.
